Mayor's FY25 Budget Narrative and Proposed Operating Budget

On Thursday, May 2nd, Mayor J. Christian Dumais submitted his FY25 Proposed Operating Budget to the Marlbrough City Council. Mayor Christian laid out his proposed budget and the city's financial outlook in his first budget narrative, which you can read here

The FY25 Proposed Operating Budget is submitted to the City Council who have 45 days under state law to act upon it before it is accepted. At the May 6th City Council meeting, the Council typically refers the budget to the Finance Committee (comprised of five voting Council members) who will take up the budget in stages, department by department. Once the Finance Committee reviews each department, they will recommend reductions or request additions to the full City Council who will take up the budget and vote on a final version. Once a majority of City Councilors approve a version of the budget, that version will be sent to the Mayor for approval or veto. The budget must be approved before the beginning of the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1, 2024.
