Get & Use Your Library Card
Getting a Library Card
- Massachusetts residents will need to present a picture ID and proof of current address to get their library card.
- You may also get a digital e-card. An eCard is a CW MARS library card that you can register for online to access electronic materials, such as ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and databases. The eCard is for patrons who do not already have a CW MARS library card and may be upgraded to a physical library card with borrowing privileges by visiting your local library with a picture ID and proof of current address.
- Lost your card? There is no fee for getting a replacement. Lost library cards should be reported immediately since you are responsible for all materials borrowed on your library card until it is reported lost or stolen
- Please notify the library of any changes of name, address, phone number and email address as soon as possible.
- You will need to present your library card or library card number for all library transactions.
- Using your library card number and Password or Personal Identification Number (PIN) (see note), you can log into My Account to see what materials you have borrowed, renew materials that can be renewed, request materials, check the status of your requested items and cancel your requests.
- You can also change your PIN or your email address, pay for lost/damaged items or make a donation to the library.
Note: If you are logging in for the first time with a new card, your PIN number will be the last four digits of the telephone number you provided. If you still have trouble logging in, please contact the circulation desk at 508-624-6900, ext. 2 for assistance.
Renewing Items
- Eligible items are automatically renewed on the due date. An email notification will be sent on the due date alerting you that a renewal has been attempted for your items. Check the body of the email to find out whether your items were successfully renewed or if they were unable to be renewed.
- Loans can be renewed manually ahead of the due date, as well. by logging into your Library Account online with your library card number and PIN or contacting the Main Circulation Desk.
- There are limited renewals available on items. If you have reached the limit of allowed renewals, they will not renew automatically and cannot be renewed online. You must contact us at the Main Circulation Desk at 508-624-6900, ext. 2.
- Late items returned to the Marlborough Public Library will not generate fines. CW MARS voted in September 2022 to become the first library network in Massachusetts to officially go fine-free! While some libraries are grandfathered based on their current policies, all members are strongly encouraged to go fine free. The Marlborough Public Library is proud to be among the 130 libraries out of a total of 157 member libraries that do not charge fines for most overdue items.
- Some items will not be affected by this amnesty, such as late museum passes and some items borrowed from libraries outside of the CW MARS library network. The library will assess a fee for lost or damaged items.
Important! Items borrowed from other libraries may not be renewable. Please contact the Owning Library if you have any questions. Items borrowed from other libraries may have different borrowing periods according to other libraries' policies.
Returning Items
- Materials may be returned either to the Marlborough Public Library or any other CW MARS Library. Please use the outside book return slot to return materials when the library is closed.
