What we do
The IT Department for the City of Marlborough and Public Schools plays a vital role in ensuring that all technology and network infrastructure operate smoothly and effectively. We support the technological needs of city and school staff, enhancing the overall efficiency and functionality of our services.
Our Responsibilities
Network Management
- Network Infrastructure: Design, implement, and maintain the city's and schools' network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks.
- Network Security: Implement security measures to protect against unauthorized access, malware, and cyber threats.
- Internet Connectivity: Ensure reliable and high-speed internet access for all city and school facilities.
Technical Support
- Help Desk Services: Provide timely and efficient technical support to city and school staff, resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
- Device Management: Manage and maintain computers, tablets, and other devices used by staff and students.
- Software Support: Install, update, and troubleshoot software applications used across various departments and classrooms.
Systems Administration
- Server Management: Administer and maintain servers, ensuring high availability and performance for all critical applications and services.
- Data Backup and Recovery: Implement robust data backup and disaster recovery solutions to safeguard critical information.
- Email Services: Manage email systems for city and school staff, ensuring secure and reliable communication.
IT Projects
- New Technology Implementations: Lead and manage projects that introduce new technologies to improve productivity and efficiency.
- System Upgrades: Plan and execute upgrades to existing systems and infrastructure to keep pace with technological advancements.
- Collaboration Tools: Promote and support the use of collaboration tools such as video conferencing, shared drives, and other cloud-based solutions.
Cybersecurity
- Security Policies: Develop and enforce IT security policies and procedures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of data.
- Security Awareness Training: Conduct training sessions for staff and students to raise awareness about cybersecurity best practices.
- Incident Response: Respond to and mitigate the impact of cybersecurity incidents and breaches.
Support for Educational Technology
- Classroom Technology: Support the integration of technology in classrooms to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Digital Learning Platforms: Manage and support digital learning platforms in collaboration with the School ITS (Instructional Technology Support) Team, ensuring they are accessible and effective for students and teachers.
- Technology Training: Provide technical support to ITS for training teachers and staff on the effective use of educational technology tools.
