The Commission's Mission: is to work to protect the natural resources of Marlborough both its wetland and open space. The Commission:
w Administers the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act
w Undertakes land acquisition
w Manages conservation land management
w Undertakes public education and public participation on environmental issues.
The reason for the Commission's existence: Protection of Wetlands and Natural Open spaces!
w To permit and oversee the construction of projects within 100 feet of wetlands or 200 feet from Rivers to ensure that the wetlands are protected from siltation or contamination due to the adjacent construction.
w To protect and manage open space. Open space protection saves the city money: development increases demands for schools, roads, water, and related infrastructure.
w Open space increases the quality of life for all residents: a healthy environment provides clean water, clean air, recreation, increased property values, etc. Protecting land around water supplies help to keep our drinking water clean.
Who is on the Conservation Commission? A seven (7) member board of dedicated volunteers appointed by the Mayor.
