Notice-Collection and Disposal of Storm Debris
NOTICE
Department of Public Works
Office of the Commissioner

October 29th Snowstorm
Collection and Disposal of Storm Debris

City of Marlborough Commissioner of Public Works, Ron LaFreniere announced today, that effective Monday, November 7th, the Department of Public Works will begin curbside collection of tree and brush debris from private property associated with last weekend’s snowstorm event.

Over the next 4 weeks, owners of single, two and three-family properties throughout the city may place tree and brush debris from their private property at the back edge of sidewalk for collection by the department.  Debris shall be placed such that it does not encroach into sidewalk or shoulder areas used by pedestrians.

Wood, limbs and brush must be cut in lengths no greater than 6 feet in length and placed in piles that can be easily picked from lawn areas and transferred to the vehicles that will transport the debris.  Debris materials may be cut to shorter lengths but no less than 2 feet.  Debris materials should be placed a minimum of 3 feet from any hydrant or telephone pole.  The department will not be responsible for final cleanup of the areas where these materials are placed.  The department also will not be responsible for minor damage to lawn areas resulting from the pickup.

The department anticipates that it will cover the entire city twice over the next 4 weeks.  Residents are asked to have debris materials placed as described above on or before Monday, November 21st.  Beginning the 21st, the department will conduct its final sweep of the community for these materials and once areas have been picked up after the 21st, no additional debris will be collected.

Residents are responsible for getting debris to the street line at the edge of their property.

Beginning Monday, November 7th, residents may also bring their storm debris to the city’s former landfill at #402 Hudson Street.  Between Monday, November 7th and Saturday, December 3rd, the former landfill, located at the intersection of Hudson Street and Bolton Street will be open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and on Saturdays between 8:00 am and noon.

Residents will be required to place debris materials in designated areas within the landfill and proof of residency will be required and requested by department personnel before any debris may be disposed.

Questions concerning either the curbside collection or landfill disposal of storm debris may be directed to Ms. Marcia Josephson at 508-624-6910 x7200.
