To access the databases and online resources listed below, simply click on the title.  To access some databases, Marlborough residents will need a valid library card. Most of the resources listed can be accessed from the convenience of your own home.  Follow the Connect from Home link and enter your library card number when prompted.  On Marlborough Public Library computers, simply click on the title of the database to gain access.

  • Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. Updated daily.
  • Provides expansive and in-depth information on the people, events, and topics important to the study of African-American history.
  • Spans more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history, highlighting the important people and events of the American experience.
  • Covers the important people, events, legislation, and issues relevant to the study of women's history in the United States.
Biography Resource Center           
  • This database integrates award-winning biographies from respected Gale sources with related full-text articles from hundreds of magazines and newspapers, as well as tens of thousands of images and links to vetted websites. Search for people---both current and historic from all eras and fields of endeavor---based on name, occupation, nationality, ethnicity, birth/death dates and places, or gender, as well as keyword and full text. Or, combine search criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search.
  • Biography Resource Center: African Americans offers narrative and thumbnail biographies about notable African Americans from the respected Gale sources available in the Biography Resource Center. Enhancing the reference content are full-text periodical articles, websites, and recent update news briefs. Search on name, personal facts such as birth/death dates and place, occupation, and gender, or combine criteria to create a targeted custom search.
  • Contemporary Literary Criticism--Select is an extensive collection of more than 11,000 critical essays on contemporary authors. Each CLC--Select entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, a list of principal works, critical essays, and sources for further study. Updated monthly, Contemporary Literary Criticism--Select allows users to search by author name, title of work, nationality, subject/genre, ethnicity, critic name, and more.
Digital Treasures           
  • An historical collection of digital images from communities throughout central and western Massachusetts.
  • Educator's Reference Complete is a selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database. The database is updated daily and provides 24-hour access from school or home.
  • From arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all academic disciplines. Access scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers - many with full text and images!
General BusinessFile ASAP

  • Explores more than 800 hot topics in business, politics, government, education, and popular culture.
Kids InfoBits       
  • Kids InfoBits is a database developed especially for beginning researchers in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Featuring a developmentally appropriate, visually graphic interface, the most popular search method is moving from a broad subject to a narrower topic using the subject-based topic tree. The curriculum-related, age appropriate, full-text content is from the best elementary reference sources and magazines. This database covers geography, current events, the arts, science, health, people, government, history, sports and more.

Virtual Reference Library           
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7. Because each library creates its own eBook collection, the content you see may vary if you use the database at different libraries (your school, your public library, or your office).
