The Marlborough COA offers a variety of exercise classes for all levels of fitness. Please read the class descriptions below and look for the best class or classes that suits your personal fitness needs. We encourage you to talk with your doctor if you are concerned about participating in any of the classes we offer below. All individuals age 60 and over are invited to particpate in any of our fitness activities. Please know that although you may have never participated in an exercise class or a particular type of class listed below - don't shy away. Just go and talk with
the instructor and let them know you are new to the class and may require their assistance during the class
Don't forget to sign up before your class at the front desk. Happy exercising!
Please remember with inclement weather that if the public schools are closed that the Senior Center will also be closed.
Fitness Classes offered:
Zumba
The Latin-dance-exercise-class taught by Ceil Sharon, a certified Zumba Gold instructor and is trained to teach special fitness levels of older adiults. This class is offered on Monday's at 11:00 A.M.. For all of you who Zumba’d the first time around and those who will be moving and grooving for the first time this is the class for you!
Be Fit
An aerobic workout for all fitness levels. Friday- 10:00- 10:45 A.M.. Our instructor is Sharon McDevitt, a popular fitness instructor in the Marlborough community as well as in other neighboring Senior centers.
Chair Yoga
This class is offered at the Senior Center on Tuesday's at 10:00 A.M. and Friday's at 9:00 A.M.. Seniors are a population that can see immediate and far-reaching benefits from practicing yoga with a modified approach that takes into account their special medical needs. The Gentle Stretch Yoga class offered by Katie Cohen, a certified yoga instructor encompasses those needs by using chairs to safely adapt traditional yoga poses. A standard component to her classes, breathing exercises focus on relaxation and stress reduction while increasing lung capacity and potentially reducing blood pressure. This is not a yoga floor class. Those confined to wheelchairs are welcome.
Line Dancing
So you think you can line dance? Step up with Ceil Sharon and learn to move and groove to the standards and contemporary sounds ~ you’ll be surprised how much fun it can be discover or recapture your rhythm within. This fall Ceil brings a new format to invite the curious beginner as well as those still learning and loving it. Come by and check it out on Tuesday's at 11:00 A.M.. No auditions required, feel free to join one class before signing up.
Beginners Aerobics
This class is for those who have not done an aerobic class and have a desire to exercise all their muscle groups and elevate your heart rate. This class will leave you feeling energized and ready to start the day. This class is held on Monday's at 10:00 A.M..
Water Aerobics at Wayside Swim and Racquet Club-
This class does require a fee to particpate of $40.00 for ten weeks of scheduled classes. If you are interested in particpating in this class please call the Council on Aging at 508-485-6492 and let us know of your interest. We also offer a water aerobic puch card for other water aerobiccallses you choose to attend at Wayside Raquet and Swim Club. This punch card is avaible to be purchased at the Senior Center for Friends of Marlborough Seniors $40 and $60 for Non-Friend Members. Must be age 60 or over to purchase.
Floor Yoga- This is a popular class that gives seniors an opportunity to exercise on the floor and stretch their body in a exhilerating manner. Our instructor is certified and very compassionate to this form of exercise and her students. This class is held each Friday at 9:00. Bring a exercise mat if you have one or your welcome to borrow one from the center.
Tai-Chi - A great class to stretch your body in a challenging way and relax your mind and spirit. This class ends with a wonderful meditation time and is enjoyed by all the participants. Class is taught by Dr. Helen Morin each Friday at 11:00.
Newest classes:
Senior Boot Camp- This class is taught by Tania Borg, a certified aerobic instructor from Wayside raquet and Swim Club. This class is geared for Seniors who have enjoy exercising at a higher energy and intensity level. This class will give your body a complete workout and you will leave feeling very satisfied and well exercised. This class is offered each Wednesday at 9:00.
