Community Choice Electric Supply Program

December 9, 2015 Update: The City of Marlborough has extended its Community Choice Power Supply Program with Hampshire Power. Hampshire Power will provide electric power supply for all consumers participating in Marlborough’s Program.

YOU WILL NOT NOTICE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR ELECTRICITY SERVICE. You will continue to see Hampshire Power printed under the “Supply Services” section of your monthly bill. You will continue to receive one bill from National Grid. You will continue to send your payments to National Grid for processing. National Grid will continue to respond to emergencies, read meters and maintain the distribution and transmission lines. Reliability and quality of service will remain the same. Furthermore, you will continue to have all existing consumer rights and protections.

[Residential and Small Commercial rates change every 6 months. Large Commercial and Industrial rates change every 3 months.]

Exit Terms



PARTICIPATING CONSUMERS will start benefiting from the lower rate beginning on the day of the month in December 2015 that their meter is read. This date varies by service area. Your meter reading date is shown on your bill.

IF YOU OPTED OUT OF THE PROGRAM, you will need to opt back in by calling Colonial Power at 508-485-5858, or by going to If you signed an agreement with a private supplier, you may opt in to the Program, but please check with your supplier because you may incur fees/charges by cancelling your agreement early.

IF YOU ARE A BASIC SERVICE CONSUMER WHO HAS BEEN MAILED A NOTIFICATION you do not need to take any action to participate. You will automatically be enrolled. If you do not wish to participate, please follow the instructions specified.

Three things you should know:
  • If you did not opt out, you were automatically enrolled in the City’s program and will save approximately 3.5 cents per kWh. ~Hampshire Power~will continue to send opt out letters to customers who have recently opened accounts with National Grid, ensuring that every customer has an opportunity to opt out before being enrolled.
  • National Grid will continue sending monthly bills, responding to outages, and delivering electricity.
  • No one from the City’s program will ever come to your door to ask you to switch to a new supplier. ~Anyone who does come to your door is not with the City’s program.
