The City of Marlborough, Department of Public Works seeks qualified applicants for the position of Industrial Pretreatment and Fats, Oils, and Grease (IP&FOG) Coordinator.

Responsibilities include:  Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner of Utilities, this position will coordinate, permit, educate, cite and assure that the City’s wastewater pretreatment and FOG programs comply with all City, State and Federal requirements. They will also direct, supervise, review and work with a crew ranging from 1-2 individuals.   

In addition, to the administration and updating of the industrial waste pretreatment program, other  responsibilities include: reviewing waste discharge applications and issuing permits for discharge, meeting with industrial plant personnel regarding industrial waste discharges, supervising and/or conducting inspections of industrial dischargers, sampling and testing industrial discharges to ensure compliance with the sewer use ordinance and industrial discharge permits and issuing violation notices when necessary and maintaining complete and accurate records of all documentation and activities related to the pretreatment program and preparing reports for supervisor and State and Federal agencies.  

The FOG coordinator’s responsibilities will include: developing and updating the FOG control program to include identification of possible FOG problem locations, conducting and/or supervising routine and unannounced inspection of grease interceptors and traps to minimize grease buildups in sewer lines, responding to inquiries and complaints related to the FOG program, maintaining records of inspections and maintenance of grease traps, coordinating with the plumbing inspector and board of health when necessary to insure permitted grease interceptors and traps are properly sized, installed and maintained; investigating grease related wastewater blockages or releases to determine possible contributing facilities, then developing and take action(s) to correct deficiencies and assist with the development of standards and requirements relating to grease control.

The position will also be conferring with the management of industries, commercial operations and food establishments to identify problems and ensure compliance with the City’s pretreatment and FOG regulations.

Requirements:   Minimum high school diploma and at least seven years’ experience in sewer utilities/distribution operations and maintenance, utility location and inspection, sewer and plumbing regulation, enforcement, or similar relevant discipline including supervision of subordinates. Work requires performance of tasks in extreme heat and confined spaces. Work requires performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.

Location:       Department of Public Works, 135 Neil Street, Marlborough, MA.

Schedule:       Monday thru Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Salary Range:           $66,131.95 – $76,988.92
