Marlborough Stream Team Monitoring Program

A band of wonderfully dedicated volunteers have been monitoring the streams throughout the city to determine their health.  The project began in 2007 and will continue until all streams have been monitored.  Once we've assessed their health we will monitor the streams as needed to ensure they stay healthy.

After each stream is monitored, a report is written and a list of action items on corrective measures needed to help protect the stream’s health is developed.  Once the report is complete, different city departments are notified of problems that need to be addressed and work to resolve them.

We are happy to report that so far, our streams appear healthy and support wildlife. As of the spring 2010 we have inspected over a dozen streams within the city and only have about 5 more to do.  If you are interested in our results, please click on the links below for each stream section report.

If you want to help us in our effort to survey the remaining stream systems, please contact Conservation Officer, Priscilla Ryder at pryder@marlborough-ma.gov or call 508-460-3768 for more information.

Many thanks to volunteer Jen Boudrie who served as co-leader and coordinated and helped to get this project organized and off the ground.  Jen's leadership and amazing organizing skills and committment to the environment has been invaluable to this stream team effort.   Thanks to all the volunteers who have spent countless hours surveying the streams over the years and getting their feet wet, we could not have done it without all of their enthusiasm and time.

Happy reading  :),
Priscilla Ryder
