SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

To ensure equity in the marketplace through effective Weights and Measures enforcement.
The Office of Sealer of Weights and Measures is responsible for the enforcement of the Massachusetts General Laws relating to Weights and Measures. The Sealer tests, inspects, seals, and/or condemns weighing and measuring devices used in the sale of commodities to consumers. He examines and tests automated retail checkout systems. He checks hawkers and peddlers for proper licensing and compliance with laws. The Sealer also investigates sales transactions and practices upon initiative and upon complaint, and may initiate legal action for violations of weights and measures laws.
