Important Notice to Unlicensed Home Improvement Contractors (HIC)
Effective January 1, 2008, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) implemented regulations in the MA State Building Code that allow certain unlicensed contactors to obtain a Specialty Construction Supervisor License (CSL) for the following four construction specialties fields:
· Residential Roof Covering (RCCSL)
· Residential Windows and Siding (WSCSL)
· Residential Solid Fuel Burning Appliance Installer (SFCSL)
· Demolition Only (DCSL)
If you are presently a Registered but Unlicensed contractor (HIC) doing work in any of these fields, you may be eligible to obtain a specialized license without having to take and pass an exam (i.e. grandfathering), however, you will need to submit an application prior to June 30, 2008 in order to obtain permits.
